What is Local to Harrier Grange Care Home?

Harrier Grange is situated in the lovely market town of Andover. The majority of the town’s structures date from the 18th century, when it was a popular stopover for coaches travelling to various areas of the country, but more specifically Oxford, Southampton and, of course, London. Located in the Test Valley, the town originally dates back to Saxon times, with its charming high street and tiny walkways.

The Town Mills

Located close to the Anton River, and thus marking the beginning of the town paths/trails, lies the very popular visiting spot otherwise known as The Town Mills.

The Andover Time Ring, which runs around the high street and is marked by ten beautiful mosaic pieces, depicts major historical events from the town’s past, and is something we here at Harrier Grange highly recommend locals and tourists stop and take the time to view.

Anton River

There are also two poetry trails, one running along the main street and the other meandering along the Anton River, with poems inscribed in stone, metal plates, and etched glass. History buffs and ever-so curious tourists are guaranteed to never have a dull moment while exploring the beautiful town of Andover.

Visit the Andover Museum and Museum of the Iron Age in the town centre, or the Museum of Army Flying in neighbouring Middle Wallop, for additional information on the area’s rich history.

The Lights

The Lights, which hosts a dynamic schedule of music, dance, theatre, and children’s events, as well as the exhibitions and activities at the adjoining Fairground Craft and Design Centre, offer arts and entertainment in Andover.

Comedy evenings, dance, theatre, and music are all available at The Lights, which considers itself to be a modern arts and entertainment centre.

Every year, Andover Live, a series of free live activities, is held in the town. Every Thursday and Saturday, the High Street hosts a street market. The picturesque Test Way walking track and the Hawk Conservancy Trust, with its 150 species birds of prey, are not to be missed by walkers and wildlife lovers.

Andover is a welcoming town with a strong sense of community that’s been curated over years and years of hard work and effort by those living within it. Andover’s strong sense of community is demonstrated through its numerous local organisations and societies, as well as its own radio station.

Andover is a town to grow up in, where young people stay in touch for business and pleasure throughout their careers, as well as a location to call home for the rest of your life. It’s 14 miles northwest of Winchester and 17 miles northeast of Salisbury, nestled among chalk hills on the River Anton, a tributary of the Test.
