National Care Home Open Day 2018
The Mayor of Test Valley joined in our celebrations last Saturday to mark the national open day, focused on creating community relationships.
The idea behind Care Home Open Day, now in its sixth year, was to encourage local people to visit care homes in the community and work together to build long-lasting relationships.
The suggested theme in 2018 for Care Home Open Day was 'linking communities' so we invited residents and staff from the nearby Clifford House, a care home in Alexandra Road, to attend for a fun-filled day of entertainment and activities.
Guests included the Mayor of Test Valley Cllr Carl Borg Neal and his consort Maria Borg Neal, while Andover based singer Vicki Parkinson charmed all with her soulful renditions of Vera Lynn and other well-known classics from the 1940's era.
Our Activities Co-Ordinator, Chris Martin, arranged lots of outdoor activities including apple bobbing, a coconut shy, bowls and a Royal-themed quiz to commemorate The Queen's 92nd birthday, which took place on the same day.
Our Care Home Manager, Kay Kelly said: "We are always looking at new ways of building relationships with the local community and Care Home Open Day was a fantastic way of bringing generations together."
"We were delighted to welcome residents from Clifford House care home and all other guests, including Carl and Maria of course, who have become very close friends of the home and our fabulous singer Vicki. There was a real buzz around the home about the event and the residents had a great day."
