Quality Time at Harrier Grange

residents with families outside

As the chilly days and frosty starts are starting to creep in, we thought it only fitting to make our outing for this month a trip to Rosebourne & Hillier in Andover for afternoon tea and a chance to shop for some Christmas decorations to prepare for the festive season ahead!

We had a wonderful time browsing through the twinkly lights and gorgeous decorations as well as choosing some festive foliage to bring back for everyone to enjoy. After some retail therapy, we sat down to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and a catch-up about our plans for next month and what we hope the new year will bring for us all, as well as reminiscing about fond memories of the past and all the laughter and love this time of year gifts us.

Sometimes outings don’t need to be all ‘glitz and glamour’! A spot of retail therapy and a catch-up with friends is sometimes just the thing you need. Living in a care home is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and chat with new people, but we also understand that at times it can feel rather invasive and the need for some personal time is equally important.

Similar to our ‘1-2-1’ and ‘Helping Hands’ sessions, having an opportunity to talk openly and freely without the hustle and bustle around you is vital. It can be an opportunity to process and reflect things in your mind, just as it would seeing a therapist or talking with family.

Not only are these moments beneficial for residents, but can also hugely impact our wonderful team members. Similarly, working in a care home often sees your days filled with tasks to do and things to tick off your list. We express to our team just how important it is to also take the time to pause and have a cup of tea and a chat with our residents.

Outings like these allow us to sit and really listen and focus and find out what’s important to them and to help with the interpersonal relationships that go on in between daily tasks such as personal care. It enriches both parties involved and strengthens the friendships that are made with staff and residents and leaves us all the better for it.
