Staying Connected to Spirituality at Harrier Grange
At Harrier Grange, we are passionate about supporting our residents' spiritual and cultural beliefs, ensuring they feel a deep sense of belonging and connection throughout their care journey. This week, we were delighted to host a service led by John Searles, one of our cherished local church visitors. John delivered a meaningful reflection on Epiphany and led the residents in singing beloved hymns, including the uplifting ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful.’
The service was well attended and brought moments of quiet reflection, joy, and community for all. For those who have always enjoyed attending church, it’s a wonderful way to maintain a cherished routine. Others, including residents living with dementia, found joy in reminiscing about childhood memories sparked by the music and familiar hymns.
Activities like these go beyond just being a service—they remind our residents that their individuality and beliefs are celebrated and valued. Knowing they can still honour their faith or explore new connections in a supportive and inclusive environment helps ease anxieties about moving into a care home, making Harrier Grange truly feel like home.
As well as supporting our residents with their beliefs and lifestyles, we understand the importance of highlighting our residents and their unique talents, interests or hobbies. This month, we are starting a 'resident spotlight' where we will provide more information regarding one of our residents and what they love to do whilst residing with us.
We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on Jon, our resident piano virtuoso, this month whose musical gift never fails to lift spirits and bring people together.
Jon’s piano playing is nothing short of extraordinary. What makes it even more remarkable is that he performs entirely from memory, without relying on sheet music. He was born into a family where music was a way of life. His mother was a professional pianist and his father was an operatic tenor which meant John began playing as a child and hasn’t stopped since.
He describes the piano as his greatest passion, with his short practice sessions often turning into hours of joyous music. Whether he’s sharing classical pieces or more modern melodies, his performances are a treasured part of life at Harrier Grange. Other residents love gathering in our beautiful lounges to hear him play and sing along.
John’s talent is a testament to the power of music to create connections, inspire joy, and strengthen a sense of community. We are endlessly grateful for the gift of music that he so generously shares with all of us, as well as the number of amazing and talented residents we have here at Harrier Grange Care Home.
We are also proud to show off our dedicated and compassionate team and are thrilled to announce Chrissy as our employee of the month for January!
If you have a loved one who would benefit from a nurturing and inclusive environment like Harrier Grange, where their passions and beliefs are not only supported but celebrated, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us today or book a tour to learn more about our exceptional care services!
