The Grand Opening of our Sensory Garden

After much anticipation, we're thrilled to announce the official opening of our balcony garden for the Dementia Community on May 17th.

The goal was to create a sensory sanctuary not only for our dementia community but for all our residents. Coinciding with Dementia Action Week, this marks the beginning of our initiatives to enhance the lives of our dementia community.

We hosted an event to inaugurate the balcony and extended invitations to community figures, friends, and families to join us for the opening. The project's funding has been generously provided by families and friends. Our residents also put forward suggestions for names for the Top floor Mascot and the winning name was chosen by the friends and families that joined us at the event.

We were delighted to welcome our local mayor to Harrier Grange to help with the special occasion. It was a great day for all.

What is the importance of Sensory for Dementia?

For residents living with dementia, sensory stimulation can help. Giving people something to focus on helps them to practice and to use the parts of their brain that are required for concentration. The more these cognitive muscles are stretched, the more it can improve focus.

By having a Sensory Garden at Harrier Grange, our residents can feel safe in an outdoor area where they get the opportunity to recall past memories and experiences, which has been proven to improve moods, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to families and friends of our care home for their generous donations, and thanks to the dedication of our team, we've crafted a truly beautiful space for our residents.
